Introduction
Welcome to The Season ("we," "our," or "us"). We built this app to help you discover your personal color season and shop with confidence. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it.
By downloading or using The Season app or visiting theseasoncoloranalysis.com (the "Service"), you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
In short: The Season app does not require an account and does not ask for your name or email. Your color analysis and your photo are stored on your own device, not on our servers. Your photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to produce your analysis, and only after you have explicitly agreed to it in the app. We never create a faceprint or biometric identifier, and we retain no copy of your photo. We do not track you across apps or websites. If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter on our website, we collect your email address for that purpose only.
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
Color analysis photo (face data): A photo you choose to upload or capture for analysis, containing an image of your face. See "Your Photo and Face Data" below for full detail on what is and is not collected and how it is handled.
Season selection: If you already know your color season, you may select it manually instead of uploading a photo. This selection is stored on your device.
Saved items: Products you save to your favorites list are stored on your device.
Email address (website only): If you subscribe to our newsletter on theseasoncoloranalysis.com, we collect the email address you submit so we can send you seasonal guides, articles, and updates. This is entirely optional, and subscribing is not required to use the app.
The app itself does not require you to create an account, and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
Information collected automatically
Purchase information: When you make an in-app purchase, the transaction is processed by Apple or Google, depending on where you downloaded the app. We receive confirmation of purchase status through RevenueCat, our purchase management provider, but we never receive or store your payment card details.
Anonymous purchase identifier: RevenueCat assigns your installation a random, anonymous identifier so we can confirm your purchase and restore it if you reinstall the app. This identifier is not linked to your name or email.
Basic technical data: Our purchase provider and our analysis server may process your IP address and device type as a normal part of delivering the Service and protecting it from abuse.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app. The app does not build advertising profiles and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Our website and newsletter are hosted by beehiiv, and beehiiv's technology collects some information that the app does not:
Cookies and similar technologies on our website: When you visit theseasoncoloranalysis.com, beehiiv may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to collect your IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, referring and exit pages, and links clicked. You will be presented with cookie choices on your first visit, and most browsers let you refuse cookies.
Email engagement: If you subscribe to our newsletter, beehiiv records standard email analytics such as whether you opened an email, which links you clicked, and related technical information. We use this only to understand which content is useful and to improve what we send.
These activities apply to our website and emails only. They do not occur inside the app.
Your Photo and Face Data
This is the most sensitive information the app handles, so we want to be precise about it.
What face data we collect. The only face data The Season collects is a single photograph that you choose to upload or capture, which contains an image of your face. We collect it solely so that the coloring of your skin, hair, and eyes can be assessed.
What face data we do NOT collect. The Season does not create, derive, generate, or store a faceprint, face template, face map, face geometry, facial landmark data, depth map, or any other biometric identifier. The app does not use Apple's ARKit, the TrueDepth camera, the Vision framework, Face ID, or any other face detection, face tracking, or face recognition technology. We do not use face data to identify, authenticate, or recognize any individual, and we do not attempt to match your photo against any other image, person, or database.
How we collect it. You choose a photo from your device's photo library or take a new one with the camera. The app requests your permission before accessing either. No photo is captured in the background, and no photo is ever accessed without your action.
How we obtain your permission before sharing it. Before your photo is transmitted anywhere, the app displays a consent dialog that names Anthropic as the third-party AI provider receiving the photo, states what is sent, and explains our retention practices. Your photo is transmitted only if you tap "I agree." If you decline, the photo is never sent and remains only on your device. You can withdraw this permission at any time from the Profile tab in the app, after which the app will ask again before any further analysis.
Our record of your permission. The app keeps a dated record of each time you grant or withdraw this permission, including the version of this policy in effect at the time. This record is stored only on your device, is never transmitted to us or anyone else, and is deleted when you delete the app. Withdrawing permission adds a withdrawal entry — it does not erase the record that permission was previously given. We keep this so that both you and we have an accurate history of what you agreed to and when.
How we use it. Your photo is used for exactly one purpose: determining your color season and generating your personal style guide. It is not used for advertising, profiling, identification, or any other purpose.
Who we share it with. Your photo is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our analysis server, hosted by Vercel in the United States, which relays it to Anthropic PBC (the provider of the Claude AI model), also in the United States. Anthropic processes the photo to produce the color analysis and returns the result. These are the only two third parties that ever receive your photo. We do not share, sell, license, rent, disclose, or transfer face data to any other party, including advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
Third-party protection. We use Anthropic's commercial API under terms that contractually prohibit using submitted content to train AI models and require Anthropic to maintain protections for that data equal to or greater than those described in this policy. Anthropic acts as our service provider and is permitted to process your photo only to return your analysis. Vercel likewise acts as a service provider and does not use, retain, or access the content of the request.
How long it is retained. Your photo is processed in real time and is never written to any database, file store, log, or backup on our servers. It exists only in memory for the duration of the request — a matter of seconds — and is discarded when the analysis request completes. We retain zero copies of your photo after the request completes.
Anthropic, as our AI provider, holds the photo briefly on its own systems as part of delivering the analysis and monitoring its service for misuse. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, that data is automatically deleted within 30 days, and it is never used to train AI models. We do not have the ability to shorten Anthropic's retention window; if that is a concern, we would encourage you not to submit a photo. Anthropic may retain data for longer only where it detects a violation of its usage policies or where the law requires it.
Where it is stored. The only lasting copy of your photo is stored locally on your own device, so that your results card and style guide continue to display correctly when you reopen the app. That copy never leaves your device again, is not accessible to us, and is not backed up to any server we control.
How to delete it. You can delete the stored photo at any time by deleting The Season from your device, which permanently removes it along with your season and style guide. Running a new analysis also replaces the previously stored photo. Because we retain no server-side copy, there is nothing further for us to delete. See "How to Delete Your Data" below.
Sharing your results card. Your results card includes your photo. It is shared only if you choose to share it, and you can swap the photo used on the card before sharing.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Generate and display your personal color season results and style guide
Show product recommendations matched to your season
Process and restore in-app purchases
Send you newsletters, seasonal guides, and updates, but only if you subscribed on our website
Respond to your support requests
Protect the Service from abuse, fraud, and excessive use
Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for advertising purposes.
We share information only with the service providers needed to operate the Service:
Anthropic PBC — provides the Claude AI model that analyzes your photo. Your photo is sent only after you have given explicit in-app permission. It is processed in real time, held briefly on Anthropic's systems for service delivery and misuse monitoring, automatically deleted within 30 days under Anthropic's commercial API terms, and never used to train AI models. beehiiv — hosts our website and newsletter. If you subscribe, beehiiv stores and processes your email address on our behalf to deliver our emails and to provide us with engagement analytics. beehiiv also processes some information for its own purposes, including platform security, abuse prevention, and certain advertising and analytics features; that processing is governed by beehiiv's Privacy Policy.
These providers are permitted to use your information only to provide services to us.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will update this policy if that occurs.
In-App Purchases
The Season offers a one-time purchase that unlocks your AI color analysis and personal style guide. It is not a subscription and does not auto-renew.
All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you downloaded the app. We do not collect or store your payment details. Refund requests are handled by the relevant store.
Data Storage and Retention
Because The Season has no user accounts, there is very little for us to retain:
On your device: Your season, style guide, saved items, and analysis photo are stored locally on your device. They remain until you delete the app.
On our servers: We do not store your photo or your analysis results. Analysis requests are processed and discarded.
With our providers: RevenueCat retains purchase records for as long as needed to validate and restore your purchase, in line with their own retention policy.
Newsletter subscribers: If you subscribed to our newsletter, beehiiv retains your email address until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send, and we will remove your address promptly.
How to Delete Your Data
You do not need an account to use The Season, and you do not need one to delete your data.
Your photo and face data, season, and style guide
These are stored only on your device. To delete them:
Delete the app. Removing The Season from your phone permanently deletes your stored photo, your color season, your style guide, and your saved items. Nothing is left behind, and nothing needs to be requested from us.
Or reset your results in the app by running a new analysis, which replaces the previous photo and results.
We do not hold copies of your photo or your analysis on our servers, so there is nothing further for us to delete.
Purchase records
Your purchase is recorded by Apple or Google and by RevenueCat, our purchase management provider, under a random anonymous identifier that is not linked to your name or email. To request deletion of these records, email us at [email protected] and we will action it within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Please note that deleting your purchase record may prevent you from restoring your purchase on a future device.
If you subscribed on our website, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or email us at [email protected] to have your address removed. Deleting the app does not unsubscribe you.
Requesting deletion in writing
For any deletion request, or to ask what information we hold, contact [email protected] with the subject line "Data deletion request." We respond to all requests, and within the timeframe required by law where one applies.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information, or to object to it.
Because we do not maintain accounts and do not store your photo or analysis on our servers, most of the data the app holds is already under your direct control on your device — you can view it in the app and delete it by deleting the app.
If you subscribed to our newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. You may also ask us to access, correct, or delete your email address.
Because our newsletter is delivered through beehiiv, you can additionally email [email protected] from your subscribed address to request a global unsubscribe from every beehiiv-hosted newsletter you receive, including ours.
If you would like to exercise a right relating to purchase records or your newsletter subscription, or make any other privacy request, contact us at the address below and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
California residents: We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never sell or share your photo or your color analysis results.
Please note that cookies and similar advertising or analytics technologies used on our beehiiv-hosted website may qualify as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA, even where no money changes hands. You can opt out of those disclosures through the cookie controls presented on our website, through the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the beehiiv website footer, or by enabling the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we honor where required by law. You may also contact us directly.
EEA/UK residents: Our legal basis for processing is performance of a contract (delivering the analysis you purchased), our legitimate interest in operating and protecting the Service, and your consent (for newsletter emails, which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing).
Children's Privacy
The Season app is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Our newsletter is delivered through beehiiv, whose services are not intended for anyone under 18. You must therefore be at least 18 to subscribe to our newsletter.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
Our providers, including beehiiv, use recognized transfer safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses where required. beehiiv has also appointed an EU representative under Article 27 of the GDPR, whose details appear in beehiiv's Privacy Policy.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and our API keys are stored server-side and never shipped inside the app.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by notifying you within the app. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
